There are few things worse than driving at night in Monroe, WI, and being blinded by the glare from another vehicle's headlights. That's why most vehicles now come equipped with auto-dimming rearview mirrors. We at Dearth GMC can tell you more about how these mirrors work and help you find a vehicle that has them, but let's go over some of the basics of auto-dimming rearview mirrors.
Basically, auto-dimming rearview mirrors work thanks to electrochromic glass. Electrochromic glass is made up of a thin layer of gel placed between two sheets of glass. The gel darkens when an electrical charge is sent through it. Sensors in the mirror detect when there is a glare from another vehicle and send a charge through the gel, darkening the mirror and reducing the glare. The process is automatic, and you'll likely barely notice the change. However, your visibility will be greatly improved.
